Zeigler-Mano, Rebbeca

Rebeca Zeigler Mano, Amai Mano 'Amai' Rebecca Zeigler-Mano is the founder of Usap Global. She is 'mother' and Educational Adviser to all Model Gov participants and provides moral and academic support throughout the project. She holds ceremonial office as the Monarch and principal advisor of the project. Amai is based in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Dominic Mhiripiri Hon. Dominic Mhiripiri serves as the executive President. Economic recovery takes primacy in his policies, as he believes it is the key to achieve success with Zimbabwe's failing health and educational delivery systems, lawlessness, and the grave humanitarian crisis. His paper will focus on transforming Zimbabwe's economy into a powerful and attractive regional engine, and restore the country's standing in the international family of nations. Key features also include a new approach to Zimbabwe's history from pre-independence to the present, with a focus on interactions between its diverse people and national healing for historical injustices. Vice President, The Honorable
Tasikani, Tawanda
Amherst College '12

Tawanda Tasikani Hon. Tawanda Tasikani serves as the executive Vice President and Secretary of Justice. His ministerial portfolio covers parliamentary and legal affairs, giving him multiple roles in the Model Government. His paper will focus on justice delivery in Zimbabwe since independence, with a focus on the last decade, during which there have been many positive and negative changes. He will analyze the impact of recent legislation, the politicization of the judicial arm of government, Zimbabwe's pressing humanitarian crisis in prisons and the role of the legal sector in pushing for democracy in Zimbabwe. As the government's number two, Hon. Tasikani will assist the President in all key areas of the government, while his secondary paper will focus on the experience of the executive in heading the government (to be used as a template for future Model Governments. Prime Minister, The Right Honorable
Malunga, Sibongile
Reed College '12

Sibongile Malunga Hon. Sibongile Malunga serves as the Prime Minister. Her principal goal is to address the humanitarian aspect of the Zimbabwe crisis and highlight the implications of economic and political decline on people's welfare. Her paper will delve deep into health matters, human rights and social issues. Sibongile strives to yield a policy document that will blend the "ubuntu" spirit with the Zimbabwean sense of community and hence help restore Zimbabwe as an enlightened and humanitarian society. Sibongile is a pre-med student who feels very deeply about philanthropy and how people relate to each other in society. She hopes to work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. Sibongile studies Biochemistry at Reed College.

Brian K. Masunda Hon. Brian K. Masunda serves as the Secretary of Finance. His paper will focus on formulating, the right economic policies for Zimbabwe on a wide spectrum that covers all other key sectors of the government. Hon. Masunda believes economic recovery is the preeminent issue in Zimbabwe – and using sound historical, scientific and micro/macro-economic tools of analysis, he will prescribe the right fiscal policies to revive the economy. He will also focus on runway inflation, balance of payments and international aid, monetary policy, capacity utilization cross industries and economic research / education. Brian studies I nternational Development Politics and Economics at Davidson College.

Hon. Shoko, Tatenda
Yale University '12

Tapfumaneyi Muchenje Hon. Tatenda Shoko serves as the Secretary of Education. Her paper will focus on reviving Zimbabwe's educational system, once the second best in Africa, on all levels up to higher education. She will also analyze how the poor welfare of teachers has affected the delivery of education, as well as prescribing ways of stopping brain drain in this sector. Her other interests are science technology and women's affairs. Tatenda studies Applied Physics at Yale University.

 

 

Policy, Reasearch and Intl. Trade
Hon. Mangisi, Mazvitashe M
Connecticut College '12

Mazvitashe Mangisi Hon. Mazvitashe Mangisi serves as the Secretary of Policy, Research and International Trade. "Gone are the days of rigid, incapacitating and counter-productive policies, Zimbabwe is on its way to recovery" is her drive. Her paper will focus on how to facilitate the restoration of Zimbabwe's national image througFh well-orchestrated research that generates sustainable economic policies in the financial, agricultural and industrial sectors. This will boost in investor confidence on the international arena and promote structural development in Zimbabwe while also improving social welfare. Mazvitashe studies Economics and Statistics at Connecticut College.

 

Mining, and Infrastructural Dev.
Hon. Jawi, Jefta K
University of Pennsylvania

Jefta K. Jawi Hon. Jefta Jawi serves as the Minister of Mining and Infrastructural Development. He is goal-oriented and his objective is the pursuit of economic, social and political development of Zimbabwe in both infrastructural development and mining activities. In this respect, his duties will cover the current situation pertaining to his ministry, the implications of the current recession on Zimbabwe development, and the way forward in developing his motherland. Jefta believes that Zimbabwe is a country with abundant mineral wealth. When properly harnessed, this wealth can be used for the benefit of the nation at large. Jefta studies Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Public works and Labor
Hon. Magoronga, Wendy
Williams College '12

Tapfumaneyi Muchenje Hon. Wendy Magororonga serves as the Secretary of Public Works and Labor. She is also interested in education. Her work will focus on labor relations, social welfare and service delivery by parastatals. Her goal is to come up with policies that ensure that employees are duly rewarded for their skills and ensure that government departments are operating at full potential. She will also formulate proposals that enhance fair labor practices, and overally enhance the social welfare of all Zimbabweans. Wendy studies Chemistry at Williams College.

 

 

Home Affairs
Hon. Kadoko, Jonah
Tufts Univresity

Jonah Kadoko Hon. Jonah Kadoko serves as the secretary of home affairs. His passion is to work for the poor people in developing countries and to see social justice prevail. His paper will focus on how governance style has led to the collapse of service delivery in Zimbabwe, and proposals to improve strategic government apparatus like the police force and the Home Office. Jonah studies Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University.

Hon. Chausarira, Shalom T
Lander University '12

Shalom T. CHausarira Hon. Shalom T. Chausarira serves as the Secretary of Agriculture. Her interests include health delivery and agricultural technology. Her paper will focus on Zimbabwe's famous land question, focusing on historical analysis of the problem as well the as impact [economic, social] of the Land Reform Program since 2000. She will also formulate a proposal of a sound agrarian policy, drawing analogies from the same problems in other African countries like Kenya. Shalom studies Pre-Medicine at Lander University.

Stanford Chihuri Hon. Stanford Chihuri is the incumbent secretary for Health and Child Welfare in the Zimbabwean Model government. His overarching goals are to devise effective policies that, when carefully implemented, will resuscitate the Health ministry. Dr Chihuri is a bona fide Zimbabwean citizen with a vision for his country's future. In addition to save lives, he has proudly dedicated his life to promote a new generation of African leaders with an insight of serving that goes beyond entitlement. Women, Gender and Youth

Constancia Mavodza Hon. Constancia Mavodza serves as the Secretary of Women, Youth and Gender Affairs. Her focus is not only in identifying the complexities of African culture that have marginalized women in all sectors, but also the problems, trends, and potential in Zimbabwe's youth. Her paper will prescribe the right policies for these two groups, based on the open-mindedness of a new, 21 st century mindset. Her other strong interests include health delivery in for all Zimbabwean citizens. Constancia studies Pre-medicine / Neuroscience at Amherst College.

Linda ZM Chiwara Hon. Linda Z.M. Chiwara serves as the Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources. Her paper analyses Zimbabwe 's powerful tourism potential, and the effects of the economic downturn on this sector. She will also focus on effects of climate change in the Zambezi region of Central, as well as finding lasting solutions to Zimbabwe's acute problem with water resources. Linda studies Nursing and Business at St. Lawrence University.

Michelle K Vhudzijena Hon. Michelle Vhudzijena serves as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. She has strong interest in international finance and emerging ideologies in African politics. Her paper will focus on how governments' foreign policies affect economic development and integration, as well as foster greater political ties across regional and continental blocs, with a focus on Zimbabwe. Michelle studies Chemistry at Harvard University.

Kudzanai Trevor Kamhunga Hon. Trevor Kamhunga serves as the Secretary of Information and Media. He also serves as the Research Fellow of the Model Government. His paper will focus on the role of the media in shaping public opinion and creating an international image for Zimbabwe. He will focus on the impact of legislation on the media and freedom of speech in the last decade, as well as finding ways to tap the vast potential in Zimbabwe's students and workers in the mass media / information sectors. Trevor studies Finance and Accounting at Lincoln University.

Tendekai Muchenje Hon. Tendekai Muchenje serves as the Secretary of Science and Technology. His other interests include sustainable energy and environmental efficiency. His paper will focus on the role of science and technology in reviving the Zimbabwean economy, with a focus on scientific education and research/innovation as well as staining cheaper and more sustainable means of production and energy use. Tendekai studies Engineering and Math at Duke University.

Tatenda Mashonjowa Hon. Tatenda Mashonjowa serves as the Writing Fellow for the Model Government project. She will focus on the whole writing process – planning, drafting, citing, research, editing, following legal and ethical codes and will be in the editorial team of the final document. Using her skills and resources at Mt. Holyoke, she will guide secretaries and they write by providing a standard template and individual attention to participant during the process. Usap mentors and alumnae will complement her critical role. Tatenda studies Economics at Mt. Holyoke College.

 

 

Secretary of Transport, Energy and Industry
Hon. Madungwe, Ngonidzashe
Tufts University '13

Ngonidzashe Madungwe Hon. Ngonidzashe Madungwe serves as the Secretary of Transport, Energy and Industry. His other interests include science technology in his developing country and education. His paper will focus on the causes of the sharp decline in Zimbabwe’s industrial output over the past decade, with a focus on finding political and economic ideas to revive productivity. He will also analyze infrastructural development for transportation systems and Zimbabwe’s role in the global drive for more sustainable energy sources. Ngonidzashe will study Chemical Engineering at Tufts University starting in the fall of 2009.
